You’ve looked in the mirror and want to do something about your wrinkles. First, let’s explore how they got there. Facial expressions are made by strong muscle contractions, and over time, create forehead lines, crow's feet and the vertical creases between the eyes. Injectables are popular anti-aging treatments that soften these wrinkles and creases on your face and restore a more youthful appearance. The injectables work on different principles with your body’s own biochemistry and this will be explained in more detail below.

BOTOX®

BOTOX® is one of the most popular non-surgical treatments that quickly and simply diminishes or removes forehead frown and crows feet lines around the eyes. It is a purified, injectable protein. It is used to prevent the muscle contractions that cause furrows and fine lines when the face is in motion. Lines, creases, and wrinkles can be successfully treated with small injections of BOTOX® directly into specific muscles. When injected into facial muscles, it causes them to relax, thereby reducing facial wrinkles and lines. BOTOX® is not a dermal filler (see examples below), it relaxes muscles to give you are more youthful appearance. Treatments normally last from four to six months and can be repeated as results begin to fade. BOTOX® is FDA approved and almost 3.3 million procedures were performed in 2005 alone.

Juvéderm®

Juvéderm® is a dermal filler produced by ALLERGAN, a world leader in surgical and non-surgical aesthetic products. It’s a natural, biodegradable gel that flows easily into your skin, instantly adding volume to your facial lines, leaving a smooth and natural look and feel. So you’ll notice an immediate difference after just one treatment.

Juvéderm ULTRA is the first dermal filler of its kind that already contains a local anaesthetic and therefore there will be no requirement for additional topical anaesthetic. ALLERGEN formulated their product to create a comfortable injection experience for patients, so they added lidocaine, an anaesthetic commonly used by dentists and doctors for local numbing to Juvéderm® ULTRA. The Juvéderm® family of products generally last longer than other formulas—at least 12 months due to the unique way they are made.

Juvéderm® ULTRA comes in three formulations for more natural-looking, customisable results.

Juvéderm® ULTRA 2 Erases moderate lines, especially those around the lips and corners of the eyes and those very close to the surface of the skin.

Juvéderm® ULTRA 3 Smoothes wrinkles between the nose and corner of the mouth and around lips. It can be used very subtly to plump out lips in order to maintain a youthful smile.

Juvéderm® ULTRA 4 Works on the most noticeable folds and lines, and improves the contour of the face.

Radiesse®

RADIESSE® is used for facial restoration and sculpting. It is an injectable implant that is scientifically engineered to be used in connective tissue. It is soft, safe, simple and immediately effective. The creamy texture of Radiesse® stays soft, feels natural and remains in place for up to two years. Radiesse® is an FDA approved, calcium based product. It has been safely showing skin enhancements for several years. Radiesse® is perfect for improving the appearance of deep lines and wrinkles which can develop over time. It can also be used to create definition to sagging jaw lines or for sculpting the high cheek bones you always wanted.

Restylane®

This is a safe and natural dermal filler injected into the skin of the face to restore volume and fullness to the skin. It corrects wrinkle and folds and is commonly used to add volume to the lips. It is safe and long lasting, but not permanent, and they leave no scars or other marks on the face.

Restylane® is made of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that already exists in the human body. Restylane® uses non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid, and is therefore completely biocompatible with the hyaluronic acid which is already present in your body.
